AUSTRALIAN
HELLENIC GAME
& CONSERVATION

About Us

The Australian Hellenic Game and Conservation Association (Australian Hellenic Gun Club) was established in 1997. At that time there had been a number of firearm attacks throughout Australia and this raised immense concern in the public. The issue of firearm ownership, gun licenses, and hunting as a hobby were of paramount importance. It was crucial that the AHGC Association alleviate any public concern.

Although the club has a number of purposes, the main purpose is to promote multiculturalism in the area of hunting and shooting. The club also endeavours to encourage family participation in particular aiming to involve females and juniors. The club also aims to establish trust amongst its members for the purpose of acquiring a shooting ground, a Club house and a hunting property ie Wetlands Hunting Reserve or similar.

We currently have approximately 300 members and our goal is to build this up to over 1000. Doing this will secure our clubs future in establishing our own club and facilities.

The staff of the AHGC can assist members in completing their firearms license renewals and also license applications.

The AHGC is a registered club with the Licensing Services Branch of the Victoria Police and being a member of the AHGC is a valid reason for obtaining a firearms license.

Shoot days are the first Sunday of every month at the Epping Gun Club located at Vearing Road, Epping. The office opens at 9.00am and shooting starts at 10.00am. All AHGC staff wear identification making them easily identifiable for any questions.

On arrival to the club, members are greeted and then its off to the office for nominations. Shooters are placed in Squads of 5-6 shooters and given a squad number. Each squad is then sent off to the first shooting station and then the fun starts.

At each station shooters are presented with the number of targets which they get an opportunity to shoot at. Some targets are singles which means a shooter can fire two shots at it. If it is a double target then shooters have two shots for both targets. Once each shooter in the squad finishes at the station the squad moves off to the next station and starts again.

Because the AHGC is a simulated field and game club, the targets are in fact set up to mimic real life game in the field. For example a target thrown to roll along the ground would in fact simulate a rabbit. Target machines are set up in a variety of ways to send targets towards the shooter and also away from the shooter.

All non and new members of the AHGC are graded by their first 25 targets and then graded after 10 rounds of 25 targets. This system makes it fair for all shooters to compete in a grade that reflects their genuine ability.

At the end of the first round all score boards are returned to the office and shooters then have a break to enjoy the Greek Feast the club is known for. This consists of:

  • Our home made salads.
  • Dips, and of course
  • The Gyros you could die for.

Once lunch is over, it is back to station 1 and dejavu from there.

Once all shooters have finished competing and this is normally around 4.30pm, all the scores are tallied and presentations are made.

The one main rule the AHGC enforces is that in order for the shooter to collect his/her prize they must be present for the presentation. This is to give our shoot sponsor the opportunity to present the days prizes and of course for all to show our sponsor that their support is greatly appreciated.

The AHGC is affiliated with three other Greek Gun Clubs in Australia which are the following:

  • South Australia Shooting Sports.
  • Pegasus Gun Club Western Australia.
  • Artemis Gun Club in New South Wales.

Between the four clubs there are approximately 6000 members and each year on the Queens Birthday weekend we have an interstate shoot which one of the for clubs host.

Contacts for these other clubs can be found on the ‘Links to Other Clubs’ button.

See Calendar link for the months activities and club sponsors.
